An antique book locket from 1840's. This locket was most likely worn by a British soldier while he was in Service to his Majesty, Queen Victoria in Afganistan, during the the first Anglo-Afgan war. It measures 5/8th" across and nearly 7/8" high
These pictures, still mostly intact are inside this wonderful locket. A woman or young lady is on the back page Inside the first two pages of the locket are young children. The hairstyle of the girl, dates back to the mid 1840's.
The back of the locket has a delicate spray of flowers, with the finish worn off down to the original base metal, which was probably brass or bronze.

The front has a cannon - probably a symbol of the British military branch that it represents. Look at the wear on the edges of the locket. The canon, is raised up a bit on top, and is hard to see, but it is gold. Probably 14K.
